I grew up in Flint Michigan and learned to swim at the local YMCA. I spent summers water skiing and swimming in lakes. I moved to Utah in 1975 mostly for the skiing and swam infrequently. After a 35 year career as an educator & administrator in Utah, I retired in 2011 and moved to the city of Ivins just outside St. George. I learned about Masters Swimming and the USMS and entered the Huntsman Senior Games in 2013. I now swim five times a week and can’t imagine going more than a few days without spending time in the water.

Swimming has always been a part of my life ever since I was 2 years old and dove to the bottom of the deep end of the pool. Shortly after that my parents decided to put me in swim lessons and I never looked back. I am truly honored to be a part of Utah Masters Swimming in any way I can and am excited to see how it continues to grow. I grew up in small-town Evanston, WY, moved to Utah 4 days after graduation and after serving a LDS mission in Colombia South American met my sweetheart while attending school at the University of Utah. We have one son who is just as quirky and nerdy as I am. I have a love for sci-fi and swimming and have recently began to really enjoy open water swimming. Come hop in the pool with the Krusty Krabs (South Davis Masters) and see why we have such a blast. I’ll see you in lane 8!

I live in Vineyard, UT and own my own HR consulting firm (The Human Bridge).  I grew up all over, went to BYU for my undergrad in Sociology, then went to USU for a masters in HR.  I didn’t swim much at all until I picked it up at USU in 2007.  I got a classmate to teach me, and I just dove in and have been hooked ever since!  I joined the USU water polo club team, and that was tough but fun! Soon after that, I spent about 6 years out in the Bay Area of California, swimming with a few Masters groups including Stanford Masters.  I also started to get into triathlon, and now I’ve got several sprints, several Olympics, and a Half Ironman under my belt.  I have tons of hobbies, including music, movies, books, woodworking, running, cycling, but swimming and teaching swimming are right at the top of the list!  I started teaching friends pretty early on, and I’ve now taught over 100 people—I love teaching!  I’m here to help with any membership questions you may have!

I am from the east coast, but grew up mostly in Oregon before moving to Utah after an LDS mission.  Swimming was part of the school curriculum in Oregon and I developed a great love of the water. We spent school lessons at the high school  pool and then dodged off during the summer to the local lake and ocean.

I am new to master’s but have been racing road, bike and triathlons for nearly 10 years.   I just left college teaching after 21 years to start a coaching company aimed at helping families and individuals, with a part of the company focusing on sports for autistic children.  I absolutely love teaching adaptive aquatics and assisting in adult learn-to-swim sessions. It is so much fun to see people get excited about learning something new or discovering what they can do.

When I’m not training or working, I love still love a peaceful run or ride.  I enjoy gardening and cooking. Books are my favorite and I can be found with some training book in hand.

I am very excited to serve as the triathlon chair and help swimmers and triathletes learn from one another to overall improve our skills and build great relationships in the process.

I started competitive swimming when I was five years old. I competed for KYAT and MAC USA Swimming teams and Bingham and West Jordan High Schools. I was the 5A 100 Fly State Champion in 1983. I swam for the University of Utah from 1983 to 1987 and was Western Athletic Conference Champion in the 500 freestyle. During my senior year in college, I qualified for the 1988 USA Olympic Trials in the 400 and 1500 Freestyles and the 400 IM. With a few brief years of coaching age group and high school swimming, I returned to the U of U as an assistant coach and then head coach for 7 years. Early in my coaching career, I started the first “masters” swimming team, in Utah, at the newly built Steiner Aquatic Center. Currently, I am the aquatic director at the new Wasatch Aquatic Center in Heber City. I continue to coach and try to swim 2-3 times a week. I have been married for 25 years and have two daughters who are 16 and 11. Both girls swim for Olympus Aquatics.

I started Swimming Competitively when I was 5 years old.  I was not blessed with much swim talent but with hard work I became a High School state champion, multiple times, and earned a scholarship to the University of Utah, where I lettered all four years.   After college, I took a thirteen year break from swimming.  I was diagnosed with Pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and could feel my health slipping away from me.  In 2015, I started back swimming with the South Davis Master swim team, and watched my weight come back in line. I no longer have high blood pressure and pre-diabetes is a thing of the past for me.  I am excited to share a sport I love with so many people, and I am excited what swimming can do for people in their lives.
